Hope is something that seems elusive when times are bleak.

It’s a no-brainer to see how most of 2020 went.

It is easy to feel rather cast down looking back at the trail of events.

The swirls and the suddenlies left us clueless. But no matter how seemingly depressing the world has become, there is a promise of hope that never disappoints. You can feel the shift of the atmosphere during the Christmas season. For me, it does not only entail a wind of change but a beautiful message that something good is befalling.

There is something about the chillness of the night in December and it speaks life to the darkness. I believe that Christmas in this season is all about the antidote that the weary world can rejoice about.

And that is hope.

It is this hope that sparks inspiration to dream again even if our goals have been thrown out of the window or have been literally washed away by floods and storms of challenges this year.

The northern star still appears in the silent night and it empowers each one of us to rise on the occasion. Hope says there are endless possibilities for us to pursue our aspirations no matter how disappointing it may have been to cancel our goals due to lockdowns.

The winter wind carries the prayers of the faithful to end the global anguish and hear every nation’s cries for spiritual revival. More than ever, these trying times have challenged the faith of Filipinos. But there is something about our relentless pursuit of God’s goodness. There is something about our unwavering hope for His deliverance. There is something about holding on to faith. For it makes the future generation be in awe when they look in the eyes of history and realize, we have been faithful even during the unprecedented threats of the pandemic.

The Siberian breeze is pregnant with love that dispels fear and hopelessness upon each scared heart. This is what the latest song the heavens inspired me to write about.

It’s titled “Hangin ng Disyembre” (The Wind of December).

But before I present to you the song and the full lyrics, let me tell you how the bridge came about. I thought the song was already done when I wrote the verses, the chorus, and the coda. But when I and my sister were shopping for the grocery items as donations to typhoon victims, another melody kept on ringing in my ear. It was when we got home that I wrote the additional lyrics and the fitting melody for the bridge. It captures the bayanihan spirit that we have demonstrated in the midst of the national and global crises. Everything that we did (and still do) for others bring a pure blessing to them—whether that be through service or monetary form. We must not underestimate the power of our small acts of kindness, as they multiply into thousands of love especially when we work together to #healAsOne.

Make sure to listen or watch the music video of the song and be blessed!

Hope Anthem: Hangin ng Disyembre

Hindi man madali
Ang ating pinagdaanan
Pangako ng Pasko
Tayo’y babangon muli

Taon ma’y nabalot ng lagim
Ang langit ay nakakararamdam parin
Batid Niya ang dalangin ng bawat pusong dumadaing

CHORUS

Ang hangin ng Disyembre
Ay may simoy ng pag-asa
Tayo man ay nadapa
Aahon sa pagkahiga

Ang hangin ng Disyembre
ay pananampalatayang
hatid ng panalanging
sambit ng bawat isa

Tinangay man ng alon
mga pangarap, adhikain
Ang mga bituin
at nagniningning parin

Ulap ma’y tumabon
sa kislap ng kalangitan
Sa likod nito’y pag-asa na walang hannggan

*Repeat chorus

BRIDGE

Wagas na biyaya ang namutawi
sa bawat pusong naihandog
Libo-libong pagmamahal ang katumbas
ng ating pagkapit-bisig

CODA

Ang hangin ng Disyembre
ay pag-ibig at ligaya
Mga ngiti sa labi ay masisilayan na

Ang hangin ng Disyembre
ay pag-ibig at ligaya
hatid ng panalanging sambit ng bawat isa
